With the support of Oxfam India Trust, Kolkata we have organized mass awareness and action program on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS among rural and tribal youths in 370 villages of Kishorenagar and Athmallik blocks of Angul district. The project was started in September 2004 and closed in November 2006.
- This year we have taken initiative to strengthen 6 youth resource centres, 40 balak mandals and 40 balika mandals formed during last two and half year of intervention with the objective of promoting participation of youths and access to health care services to the rural areas.
- We have set up counseling and referral centre at the office had quarters to make the people aware about the issues behind HIV/AIDS, counsel the PLWHA and general community about the stigma and discrimination, make them sensitize on the facilities available with the government departments. We refer at least 10 cases in a month to the VCTC, CCC and ART centres.
HIV/AIDS Counseling and Referral
- We have set up counseling and referral centre at the office had quarters to make the people aware about the issues relataed HIV/AIDS, counsel the PLWHA and general community about the stigma and discrimination, make them sensitize on the facilities available with the government departments. We have referred 48 cases to the VCTC, CCC and ART centres.
- We provide information and establish linkages with 6 youth resource centres, 40 balak mandals and 40 balika mandals formed by the organization during implantation of HIV/AIDS care and support program during 2004-07. The objective is to promote participation of youths and access to health care services to the rural areas.
- We observed world AIDS day with the support of Action Aid, Bhubaneswar and Community Health Centre, Rajkishorenagar. We imparted a one day training for the ASHAs, youths, health workers and peer educators on causes, prevention, care and support to the to the people living with HIV/AIDS.
Survey on HIV/AIDS
In collaboration with CMS, Bangalore and Action Aid, Bhubaneswar VYK had taken the responsibility to undertake a study/mapping (Link workers mapping) on HIV/AIDS in 100 selected big villages of Angul district during 10th March to 10th April 2008. A project supported by NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) will be undertaken on the basis of the findings of the study known as Link Workers Project in the rural areas of Augul district to combat HIV/AIDS.
