For the purpose of promoting and preserving local forests and provide alternative livelihood opportunities to the tribal and forest dwellers the Odisha Forestry Sector development Project with the support of Japan Bank for International Cooperation has given the responsibility to VYK to work with 40 VSS (1st year 12 VSS) under Chhendipada Field Management Units for a period of 3 years starting from September 2007. The activities covered under the projects are :
- Micro plan and base line survey
- Formation of VSS and SHG
- Capacity Building (Training and exposure) of VSS members and staffs
- Nursery raising, mapping and conservation of forests
- Construction of community centre
- Livelihood promotion
- Village level meetings
